Wally
P. has presented the
Back
to Basics for Codependency program three times at
Positive Impact at the Bahia de Kino, Mexico facility with
overwhelmingly favorable results.
During “Family Week,” he guided the parents and
siblings of the adolescents enrolled in the Positive Impact
program through the codependency version of the original Twelve
Step meeting format that produced a 50-75% recovery rate in the
1940’s and 1950’s. As
was done during the “early days,” he took all participants
through the Twelve Steps in four one-hour sessions.
The objective was to fill a
need within the codependency community to have a format
that was easy to understand and follow for taking the Twelve
Steps from the only book that contains the directions, the
“Big Book” of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Wally P. attained these remarkable results by modifying
the Back to Basics program in the following ways:
1.
“Big Book” passages directly applicable to
codependency were substituted for the passages dealing with
alcoholism.
2.
Other Big Book passages were modified in a way that would
help codependents better identify with them.
The passages were changed to a gender-neutral language
and tone, and all references to alcoholism were eliminated.
3.
Substituted “Universal Spirit” for “God,”
wherever possible, to reduce the “religiosity ” of the
“Big Book.”
The
Back
to Basics for Codependency Meeting Leader Guide is
now available. It
contains the word-for-word format for each meeting and the
masters of the nine handouts used in the meetings.
The handouts make it simple and straightforward to take ALL
Twelve Steps in four one-hour sessions.
Wally is in the process of completing a Back to Basics for
Codependency workbook.
It will contain the modified “Big Book” passages,
detailed directions for taking ALL Twelve Steps, Fourth
Step inventory sheets, and each of the handouts used during the
meetings.
